Parenting Challenges

Statistically, 20% of adults suffer from emotional difficulties. An additional 5% have extreme mental health issues. Therefore, 1 in 4 adults suffer from emotional problems, which will likely impact their spouse, their children and their own life and cause Parenting Challenges

Every year children are born to parents who struggle with mental health challenges. Some of these children exhibit behavioral problems as early as 2 or 3 years of age. They may become aggressive, withdrawn, and / or have extreme nightmares called night terrors. When children reach school age, they may have learning difficulties, compromised social skills, impulsivity or hyperactivity. As children grow, we may see more serious manifestations such as depression, addiction or self-mutilation.

What does this mean?

It’s simple. We live in a complicated society, which is becoming more urbanized and regulated. Some children fit into the system and some children don’t. The same goes for adults. There’s more anxiety, more failed marriages, more personal expenses, pollution and chemicals have increased, and technology is advancing so rapidly, we just can’t keep up. It stands to reason those children struggle too. Sometimes it’s bio-chemical, sometimes it’s anxiety, sometimes it’s sadness and depression and other times it may be compromised parenting.

Children act out for many reasons. Whatever the reason, do everything you can to support them within a stable and loving environment. Sometimes they just need an opportunity for their brain to catch up to their body and to mature. Boys and girls often mature at considerably different ages. Good parenting and good values will prepare them for their future.
